Martin Howard

Martin is a married man, with a wife not working and two young children. He has a great business in the road services and construction industry and has been self-employed for about three years.

The Issues
The Outcome

Martin came to me as a referral from a previous client when his then tax agent accountant presented him with three quarters of BAS returns in a few weeks which resulted in a tax liability payable immediately in the 10’s of thousands of dollars.

The immediate priority was to establish a bookkeeping process that would lead to a viable set of accounting records that would reflect the actual position of Martin’s business tax liabilities and the total $ amount owed to the Australian Tax Office. The course of action involved a complete bookkeeping rework of Martin’s business accounts for one financial year and six months of the following financial year.

The bookkeeping work was completed using a current accounting software program that enabled access and viewing by Martin at any time to see the progress of the bookkeeping and accounting work I was completing on his behalf.

Assistance was given to source a new tax agent accountant that would assist Martin with getting his BAS and income tax returns up to date plus provide advice on business compliance obligations to the Australian Tax Office.
